History                       Curriculum Video

The History Department of Lode Heath School offers a diverse and interesting curriculum. We hope to support students in developing their wider understanding of the world we live in today through researching and learning about key events, people and developments through time.

KS3

Students gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. Studying history inspires curiosity to know more about the past. Students are encouraged to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. History helps students to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

KS4

GCSE History engages students with a broad and diverse study of the history of Britain and the wider world and give them skills that will support progression to further study history and a wide range of other subjects. Students will study the reign of King Richard I and King John and consider what life was like in medieval England as well as the reasons why Kind Richard went on his crusade. We go on to study Weimar and Nazi Germany and finally the American West. The course is a broad range using historical sources and viewpoints through time to make links across a range of historical periods.
