Travel and Tourism     Curriculum Video

The Lode Heath Travel and Tourism curriculum will inspire pupils to learn about the aims of different travel and tourism organisations, the features of tourist destinations, how organisations meet customer requirements, and the influences on global travel and tourism. The Travel and Tourism curriculum will give pupils an understanding about places, people, businesses, and the environment and how they all interlink. They will have a deep understanding of travel and tourism organisations and destination, influences on global travel and tourism, and customer needs in the travel and tourism. This course includes both UK and international tourism and allows pupils to explore current issues affecting global travel and tourism organisations and destinations. It also includes topics such as destination management and relationships between organisations, as well as social and ethical responsibilities/sustainability. They will also develop key skills and cross-curricular links within Travel and Tourism such as literacy, mathematical, statistical, teamwork, research, and collaboration.

 

The course is split into three components which focus on assessment of knowledge, skills, and practices all of which pupils should demonstrate throughout the course.

 

Component 1 - Travel and tourism organisations and destinations

Students will investigate travel and tourism organisations, their aims and how they work together. Students will explore types of travel and tourism and the features that make destinations appealing to visitors. This is assessed through an internal assessment. 

 

Component 2 - Influences on Global Travel and Tourism

Students will explore the different factors that may influence global travel and tourism, and how travel and tourism organisations and destinations respond to these factors. Students will examine the potential impacts of tourism at global destinations and how destinations can manage the impacts of tourism and control tourism development to achieve sustainable tourism. This is assessed by an external assessment – 2 hour exam.

 

Component 3 - Customer Needs in Travel and Tourism

Students will investigate how organisations use market research to identify travel and tourism trends, and customer needs and preferences. Students will apply their understanding by selecting products and services, and planning a holiday to meet customer needs and preferences. This is assessed through an internal assessment.
